Company FAQs

The famous KEWPIE Baby is prominently featured as part of our logo, but why a KEWPIE Doll? Well, the story goes that in 1919, our founder - Toichiro Nakashima - noticed how beloved the cupid-inspired illustrations by American illustrator Rose O'Neill had become and was inspired to adopt the cherub-style character to bring warmth and familiarity to his new brand. Ever since, KEWPIE Mayo has been associated with the iconic KEWPIE dolls. Today, KEWPIE Corporation owns the worldwide intellectual property rights and trademarks to the KEWPIE character.

KEWPIE Mayonnaise was created and launched in 1925. For more about KEWPIE, visit our KEWPIE History page.

KEWPIE Corporation is headquartered in Shibuya-ku, Tokyo, Japan. For North American operations, KEWPIE Americas is based in Irwindale, California, with additional production facilities in Clarksville, Tennessee

KEWPIE Mayonnaise is very similar to American-style mayonnaise, with one key twist. Instead of using whole eggs, Japanese mayonnaise uses only egg yolks, creating a richer texture and deeper flavor. It also features a special blend of vinegars and carefully selected seasonings, giving it a more pronounced umami taste and an extra-smooth, craveable finish. Same category. A little more flavor forward
